Dr. Myrna Dawson and Sarah Cahill, a Master’s student in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy program, University of Guelph, presented a paper called “Gender and sentencing: Do female homicide offenders received gendered treatment?” at the Law and Society meetings held in Hawai’i from June 5-8. The research presented was conducted by Cahill as part of her Master’s research using Dawson’s data on Toronto homicides collected over a period of about three decades. At the same conference, Dawson also presented a paper with Australian colleagues from the Coroner’s Court of Victoria called, “Family/domestic violence death reviews: An international comparative analysis of existing models”. The joint annual meeting was co-sponsored by the Canadian Law and Society Association (CLSA), the Japanese Association of Sociology of Law (JASL), and the Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA), UK.
