Dawson invited to sit as member of Ombudsman’s Academic Advisory Circle

CSSLRV Director and Sociology Professor Myrna Dawson has been invited to sit as a member of the inaugural Academic Advisory Circle (AAC) for the Office of the Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime. The goal of the AAC is to ensure that the Ombudsman’s recommendations target the most significant needs of victims. Circle members are invited to identify research priorities that warrant examination. At the inaugural meeting, the AAC selected several initial topics pertaining to victims of crime to move forward including coercive control, strengthening the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights, access to restorative justice, improving access to victim services and working with underserved communities. The OFOVC is an independent resource for victims in Canada. The office was created in 2007 to ensure that policy makers and other criminal justice personnel are aware of the victim’s needs and concerns.
