CSSLRV researcher and SOAN PhD student Abigail Mitchell presented research today at EuroCrim 2023: The European Society of Criminology’s Annual Conference held in Florence, Italy. Co-authored with CSSLRV Director Myrna Dawson, Mitchell’s paper called The Challenges of Defining Sexual Femicide outlines three challenges when attempting to develop a standardized definition for sexual femicide, and proposes a new definition of sexual femicide. The paper was developed from research conducted by Mitchell for her master’s thesis, “That’s Sexist, I Probably Shouldn’t Think Like That: Forensic Pathologists’ Decision-Making in Cases of Sexual Femicide.” Mitchell also researches more broadly on various topics on gender-based and sexual violence.
