Three CSSLRV researchers presented their research today at the XIX ISA World Congress of Sociology in Toronto. Guila Benchimol, a PhD candidate in Sociological Criminology, presented her paper entitled “Victims are Doing it from Themselves: Examining the Move from Sexual Victimization to Anti-Sexual Violence Advocacy.”

CSSLRV Director and UG Sociology Professor Myrna Dawson took up the position of President for the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) today at the CSA Annual General Meeting.

CSSLRV Director and Sociology professor, Myrna Dawson, has been appointed as the Senior Advisor for the United Nations Femicide Watch Platform which was launched in the spring of 2017 at the 26th Session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

Seven CSSLRV researchers traveled to London for a student, research assistant and co-investigator meeting for the Canadian Domestic Homicide Prevention Initiative with Vulnerable Populations (CDHPIVP).
Various CSSLRV researchers presented this week at the Shelters of the Future: A National Conversation conference, hosted by Women’s Shelters of Canada in Ottawa from June 13-15.
Drawing on Carol Bacchi’s ‘What’s the Problem Represented to be’ Approach (WPR), CSSLRV researcher Michelle Carrigan presented at the Annual Law and Society Conference, held in Toronto this week.
The Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS) released its 9th volume on Femicide today in Vienna, Austria, entitled Femicide, State Accountability and Punishment.
